NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ACADEMIC WRITING
THE VERY INFORMATIVE ACADEMIC WORKSHOP
π My Detailed Learning Experience from the National Workshop on Academic Writing
(27 January – 1 February 2026 | Department of English, MKBU)
The National Workshop on Academic Writing was a very meaningful and enriching experience for me. It was not just a workshop about writing; it helped me understand research, academic honesty, the role of AI, and career planning in a deeper way. Over six days, different professors guided us through important topics that every student and researcher should know.
In this blog, I am sharing my personal learning outcomes from each session.
✍️ 1. Academic Writing is Clear Thinking
Sessions by Prof. Kalyan Chattopadhyay & Dr. Paresh Joshi
In the beginning sessions, I understood that academic writing is not about using difficult words. It is about presenting ideas clearly and logically.
Before this workshop, I used to focus more on language. Now I understand that structure and clarity are more important than complicated vocabulary.
From these sessions, I learned:
How to frame a strong research question
How to build arguments step by step
How to write an effective introduction and conclusion
How to organize paragraphs properly
The importance of coherence and logical flow
I also learned that academic writing means joining an ongoing academic discussion. We must read other scholars carefully and then present our own viewpoint with evidence.
This session changed my thinking about writing completely.
π 2. Importance of Research Ethics and Referencing
Sessions by Prof. Kalyan Chattopadhyay & Dr. Clement Ndoricimpa

These sessions helped me understand the importance of academic honesty.
I learned:
What plagiarism is and how to avoid it
How to use citation styles correctly
Why references are important in research writing
How to summarize and paraphrase properly
Earlier, I did not fully understand how to connect my ideas with other researchers. Now I know that referencing shows respect for other scholars and strengthens our arguments.
I also learned how to maintain a formal academic tone and avoid casual writing in research papers.
π€ 3. Detecting AI Hallucination & Using AI with Integrity
Session by Prof. Nigam Dave
This session was very useful because today many students use AI tools.
We learned about AI hallucination when AI gives incorrect or false information confidently.
From this session, I understood:
AI is a helpful assistant but not always accurate
We must cross-check facts before using AI content
AI should help us think better, not replace our thinking
Academic integrity must always be maintained
This session made me more responsible while using technology. Now I understand that using AI without checking facts can damage academic credibility.
π 4. Academic Writing for Career Development
Sessions by Dr. Kalyani Vallath
These sessions connected academic writing with future career opportunities.
I learned:
How to write an effective CV
How to prepare a Statement of Purpose (SOP)
How to draft research proposals
How to prepare for academic interviews
How publishing works in academic fields
This session motivated me to think seriously about my higher studies and career path. I realized that academic writing skills are important not only for exams but also for professional growth.
π» 5. Creating a Digital Resource Hub
Another important part of the workshop was the preparation of a Digital Resource Hub for undergraduate students.
This activity showed me:
The importance of teamwork
How digital tools can support education
How academic materials should be organized properly
The value of sharing knowledge with others
It was inspiring to see how academic communities work together to create useful learning resources.
π± Personal Growth After the Workshop
After attending this workshop, I feel more confident and aware as a student.
My major learning outcomes are:
This workshop helped me grow both academically and personally.
Conclusion
The National Workshop on Academic Writing was not just about improving writing skills. It taught me discipline, responsibility, critical thinking, and academic honesty. It made me realize that writing is a powerful tool for expressing ideas and contributing to knowledge.
I am sincerely thankful to all the professors and organizers for conducting such an informative and inspiring workshop.
